First
name? William...but we call him Bill. In
which town do you live? My wife, Kathy and I moved to Tinley Park in November,
1997. How
do you make your living? I am a District Manager for the Wooster Brush
Company. Basically, I handle sales for Wooster, covering a territory, bordered
by Springfield in the south, ranging north through most of Wisconsin, and northwestern
Indiana. The company manufactures tools for painting (brushes, rollers, frames,
extension poles, preparation tools, and accessories). |
The
hills are alive...Bill and Kathy in the hills of Eckhartshausen near Stadt Büdingen.

How
long have you been a member of the Arts Alive Band? I've been a member
of the Arts Alive Band for about 3 1/2 years now. What
instrument(s) do you play? Tuba. There are other instruments around the
house, but none I want to claim proficiency on. For that matter it may be better
if I don't claim proficiency on the tuba either! How
long have you been playing it/them? I switched from trumpet to Tuba when
I was a freshman in high school, in 1964, so I guess the answer is 38 years (off
and on).

Before coming to Tinley Park, Bill helped found the Strongsville, Ohio Community
Band.

Are
you involved in any other musical groups, either inside or outside the Arts Alive
system? If so, which ones? Kathy and I sing in the guitar group
at St. George church in Tinley Park. What
do you like most about this group? The first thing that interested me was
the skill level of the group. With a good balance of full time musicians, educators,
and musicians from all walks of life, the group has the skill to tackle difficult
pieces, but remains accessible to players who have a minimum of experience or
have not played their instruments for years. Second, with my travel schedule,
the Monday night practices work out well, too.
Describe your
best/favorite band moment: So far, playing for the folks in Düdelsheim
really stands out. Since that concert was couched in the midst of the visit to
Germany. The people there were so appreciative, it really stands out. It also
helped that there were minimal speeches to be translated, and that concert was
in the middle of a really busy day. | <
This legendary concert in Düdelsheim was one of Bill's favorite moments...it's
one of ours too!

the Chow. > | |
What
are your hobbies? Don't get too much time for other hobbies. Music and
computer time take up most of the leisure time. Then we have a pet, a Chow named
Ewok. What
is your favorite Jell-O flavor? I can't remember the last time I had Jell-O.
I guess raspberry, if any.

| Is
there anything else you want your band friends to know about you? Kathy
and I have been married for 31 years and have two grown children. Andy is a Captain
in the Army and is married to Trish. They have two boys, Nicholas and Ethan. Angela
will graduate in Occupational Therapy this fall. We also have a Chow for a pet
that was originally Angela's but we have adopted, and she is known as "the thug"
because she is so much bigger than the other dogs in the neighborhood. A friend
of mine is putting together a group to tour Germany this September, and we should
be in Munich for Oktoberfest this year. If anyone is interested in coming along,
let me know. No scheduled concerts, but maybe we could get a pick up band. This
is the third community band I have played with and I'm sure glad you guys are
here! |
