Charisse Doody

for
APRIL 2001

Hello everyone!

April is here and Spring will soon become a reality, woo-hoo! I will be more than happy to say good-bye to the cold and flu season of the frigid weather and be able to breathe without sniffling or coughing.

This month's featured band member is from our flute section and has just given birth to her second daughter, Olivia Grace on March 19th. Ms. April is a refined, classy woman who has a heart of gold and a smile to match. Let's get to know Charisse Doody!

Respectively mitted,
Linda Riha

First name:
Charisse (That's one R and two S's -- for those of you who keep track of such things.)

In which town do you live?
Lyons

How do you make your living?
I am a medical social worker at St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights. Since the birth of our [first] daughter, Emmerson Elisabeth, I only work part-time.

How long have you been a member of the Arts Alive Band?
Since 1995

Even though Charisse (left)
was introduced to the band by Mike (right), she's still loves him!

What instrument(s) do you play?
My primary instrument is flute, but I also play piccolo, piano and am starting to learn guitar.

How long have you been playing it/them?
I have been playing flute and piano since I was in third grade. I learned how to play piccolo in college and am just starting guitar.

Charisse (left) lends her talents to the church during the
Christmas season.

Are you involved in any other musical groups, either inside or outside the Arts Alive system? If so, which ones?
Occasionally I will play with the choir at my church and have played for my brother and sister's weddings.

What do you like most about this group?
I enjoy the opportunity to keep up with playing my instrument with a group and have built many lasting friendships.

Describe your best/favorite band moment:
The thrill and excitement of playing in front of a rowdy, enthusiastic German crowd at the Düdelsheim beer tent this past June. (They couldn't get enough of us -- could it be due to the fact we were in a beer tent?) The reaction of the Germans to our American music is a memory I'll never forget.

What are your hobbies?
I am a hospice volunteer for St. Thomas Hospice. I enjoy playing my instruments, crafting, playing tennis, traveling, home decorating and caring for our daughters.

< When her parents found out that Charisse (left) and future husband Mike were dating in college, they sent this chaperone (right) to keep them under control.

What is your favorite Jell-O flavor?
Peach

Is there anything else you want your band friends to know about you?
For those who don't know, my husband Michael also plays in the band and jazz band. He is the incorrigible one in the percussion section. : ) He introduced me to the band.
