Priscilla Boersma

for DECEMBER 2001

Hello!

Regretfully, the weather is turning colder, and soon we will be in the midst of winter. Yee-hah! Yep, I'm not a cold weather person due to the simple fact that I don't like driving in the snow/ice/sleet or whatever else Mother Nature can throw at us during our chilliest months. The thing that keeps me going in the beginning of the cold season is that Christmas is just around the corner. I like Christmas! I know it's just the beginning of the month when I write this, but I would like to take the time to wish everyone a wonderful and fulfilled holiday season. God bless us one and all!

Our December BMOTM comes from our flute section and has been a member of the band since it's origination. She plays flute and piccolo...let's meet Ms. December, Priscilla Boersma.

Joyfully mitted,

Linda Riha
BMOTM Editor

First name?
Priscilla

In which town do you live?
Tinley Park

How do you make your living?
I'm a reading specialist in Summit Hill school district 161 in Frankfort. I work with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders who are having trouble learning to read.

How long have you been a member of the Arts Alive Band?
Since it started-however long that's been.

Priscilla and flute pose for her Arts Alive! Band “glamour shot”.

What instrument(s) do you play?
Flute and piccolo.

How long have you been playing it/them?
I've been playing flute since fourth grade and piccolo since seventh grade.

< Priscilla does double duty: first prepares tossed salad...

...then Priscilla and the Grace Notes play at our annual Spaghetti Dinner. >

Are you involved in any other musical groups, either inside or outside the Arts Alive system? If so, which ones?
I'm a member of the Grace Notes flute quartet.

What do you like most about this group?
I like the challenge of fitting my part into the total ensemble. I like the variety of music played.

Sharp-eyed viewers will see that she has nearly finished off that big glass in front of her.

Describe your best/favorite band moment:
I really enjoyed the 1994 trip to Germany. I think the 4th of July celebration at the army base was a real highlight.

What are your hobbies?
Besides flute and Grace Notes flute Quartet, I like to read, walk and bike ride.

What is your favorite Jell-O flavor?
Surely you jest.

The whole Boersma family is “over their skis” on a family vacation at Crystal Mountain, Michigan.

Here's the whole family again, this time dressed for something much more warmer and formal -- the marriage of son Daryl and his bride Trisha.

Priscilla (shown her with daughter Cristin) wants everyone to know that she does not expect the family to dress in “uniform”.

Here is Marine Corps Captain Daryl with his wife Trisha at the “base” down in North Carolina.

Is there anything else you want your band friends to know about you?
I have three grown-up children. Cristin is a social worker/counselor for Holland Christian Schools in Holland, MI. Daryl is a Marine Corps Captain stationed in Havelock, NC: He flies a C-130 plane. Russell works in the office at Homewood Disposal.
