The 2005 Tinley Park Autumn Fine Arts Festival and Parade

In the shadow of one tragedy (Hurricane Katrina) and on the anniversary of another (September 11th), the band looked to release some stress by performing at Tinley Park's annual fine arts event.

Starting with a grueling one-and-a-quarter mile ride on an A&M Cartage truck down Oak Park Avenue and followed with an extended stay in the air conditioned comfort of Ed & Joe's, we performed at Zabrocki Plaza, much to the delight of our hardcore fans, the remaining vendors and the three trains that came by. Afterwards, we celebrated another conquering of our village with some fine liquid refreshment from Cuzin's.

Thanks to Christy Claus, Lynn “Hojo” Hojnacki and Suzanne McFadyen for the pictures.

Although this page may take awhile to load on slower Internet connections, the wait is worth it.

Ever resourceful, crew members begin salvaging materials from last year's float so that the money can be better spent on pizza.

Being an expert, Alison shows Jenny how to use safety scissors.

Dan and Mike take a look at the work in progress.

Alice uses her wine-tasting skills to sample some of the fine products from Salina's Pizza

Having had one slice too many,
Alison spends the rest of the evening “supervising.”

Being a quality engineer, Christy gives the working parts on the float a thorough test before launch.

Brendan strikes a not-quite-heroic pose as we prepare for liftoff.

The vehicle...which happened to be one of the songs we played: "Vehicle" by the Ides of March.

Alice adds aerosol strength to a Roy Lichtenstein.

Bill proudly displays his work.

Christy has done some fun things with beads.

Jenny poses with her original.

Alice brings live motion to the swirling sky of Van Gogh's Starry Night.

The masterpiece: Dogs Playing Poker in 3-D.

The Alison-ator gets ready to cool off the parade watchers.

Wait, we can't go yet! Lisa Z can't find her _______.

Once the trailer stops spinning, Lisa Z will be able to get on board.

Here is the band getting loaded...onto the float.

“Hey, can I play? I brought a tuba...”

The official portrait.

Thanks to the float design & construction team:
Alice, Alison, Bill, Brendan, Brian, Carolyn, Christy, Dan, Jenny, Lisa Z, Miker, Pam, a Chicago bear and Suzanne “My Camera Doesn't Work” McFadyen.

Rolling through the streets of Tinley Park,
the band serenades the crowd.

As the float rolls by Tinley Park's tavern district,
Lisa Z desperately tries to get the attention of a bartender.

Thanks to our trailer's “air-ride” suspension, the low brass and percussion have a safe and gentle trip.

After the band's hot playing starts one too many brush fires, Chief Paul takes off in pursuit of the float.

With the festival organizers unable to put it off any longer, the band assembles on Zabrocki Plaza.

In the center of downtown Tinley Park, the band gives another one of their legendary “drive-by” concerts.

A somewhat annoyed Brendan gives a sideways glance to the photographer.

Our newest member uses the band's soothing music to get some sleep...

...and apparently so has Marcia.

Always eager to give their time and talents,
Paul and Mike help grandma read a book to the kids
after the concert with some help from Lynn and Jenny.
